Using the MO/M8ST method, we calculated the frequencies of in-plane vibrations in the ground and first excited singlet electronic states, and, in the Franck-Condon approximation, we calculated the intensities of transitions between them. Experimental spectra are interpreted based on these data. In the fluorescence excitation spectrum, the position of the line of the 0–0 transition (26535 ± 1 cm−1), which is the most intense, is determined.

Original Text published in Russian.Abstract:A scheme of switching the lasing wavelength of active centres in a sol—gel matrix excited by external laser radiation is proposed. A distributed feedback is formed during pumping by using a right-angle prism due to the interference of the direct and reflected pump beams. The lasing wavelength is determined by the period of the interference pattern, which depends on the convergence angle of interfering beams. Control is performed by a liquid-crystal cell, which changes the pump radiation polarization, and a birefringent prism. As a result, the convergence angle of interfering beams changes, leading to a change in the interference pattern period and the excited radiation wavelength.

Abstract: The spectral-luminescent characteristics of dyes of the red spectral range-DCM and parent substances have been studied in MMA, BMA, homo- and copolymers on their base. Dependencies of spectral properties both on the structure of synthesized dyes and rigidity and polarity of the obtained acrylate matrixes caused by their composition have been discussed.

Abstract: We have studied the nonlinear absorption of nanosecond 532-nm laser pulses by zinc phthalocyanine (PcZn), lead phthalocyanine (PcPb) and zinc porphyrin (PrZn) incorporated into a nanoporous-glass/polymer composite and determined the basic nonlinear absorption characteristics of these compounds in the composite host. The composite is shown to be suitable for designing nonlinear optical elements activated with organic compounds. The correlation between the characteristics of the three compounds in the composite host and liquid solvents is analyzed.

Abstract: The unusual behavior of low power laser beam in a thin liquid soap film attracts the researchers' attention. A beam introduced in the film is divided into the narrow micron channels. It is shown that these channels are formed just by light, and they are not a result of irregularities existed in the film. Such light ability is of great scientific and practical interest for the address transfer of information and energy.

Abstract: We propose and study both numerically and experimentally a feedback-controlled laser system capable of generating regular bursts with a submicrosecond period. Bursting is obtained in a laser that is controlled by a combination of feedbacks in which the negative feedback loop action is delayed by one cavity round trip with respect to the positive one, and the period is adjusted by relative feedback sensitivity. The proper combination of feedbacks is realized in a Nd:YAG laser with millisecond pumping by means of a single optoelectronic negative feedback unit that utilizes the signal reflected from an intracavity Pockels cell polarizer. Regular bursting (microgroups of picosecond pulses) with controlled periods from 25 to 75 cavity round trips is obtained experimentally. The development of chaotic dynamics displayed by the system at a higher pumping level differs from the Feigenbaum scenario.

Conditions for the transition from the circular symmetry to its violation are found. At a fixed astigmatism of the resonator, the symmetry is determined, first of all, by the resonator length and losses. The theoretical conclusions are confirmed by the experiments with diode end-pumped Nd:YAG and Nd:YLF lasers.

It is shown that, when the pumping is substantially inhomogeneous, detuning the cavity length from critical configurations makes it possible to generate radiation with a spatial structure close to Gaussian. The comparative analysis of the spatial structure of the radiation of Nd:YAG and Nd:YLF lasers carried out here showed that Nd:YLF crystals have substantial advantages.

Abstract: Compact diode end-pumped acousto-optically Q-switched Nd:YLF laser was developed. As in effective CW diode end-pumped lasers, pump beam was made sufficiently narrower than resonator Gaussian mode to increase efficiency in Q-switched operation. The dramatic changes of output radiation structure were observed at some resonator lengths. The radiation structure is close to the Gaussian mode in intervals between these lengths.

Abstract: This paper is devoted to the study of generation features of solid-state Nd: YLF [100] laser at the diode end-pumped lasers in continuous and pulsed modes. The spatial and temporal structures of laser radiation at inhomogeneous pumping in various resonator configurations have been investigated. The resonator configurations have been found, where, despite a substantial pump inhomogeneity, the radiation with a high spatial quality (M2<1.1) and a high temporal stability <0.5% is generated. The resonator parameters are optimized. A solid-state diode-pumped laser with the acousto-optic Q-switching has been designed. It is expected being used in micro- and nanoelectronics technologies.

An essentially nonmonotonic behavior of the dependence of the threshold pump power on the cavity length is detected. The dependences of the threshold pump power on the cavity length are calculated using the method based on the expansion of the complex field amplitude in Laguerre-Gaussian modes of a cold cavity. The best agreement with calculated results is observed for lasers with Nd:YLF active elements.

Abstract: A design of optical unit for pulsed Laser Electron X-Ray Generator is proposed. The generator provides the exposure 0.1–1 ms at frame rate 30 Hz. It consists of a completely passive circulator based on second harmonic generation and a picosecond laser system, which includes a master oscillator, pulse picking systems and amplifiers. To specially arrange the output time structure, two master oscillators controlled with optoelectronic negative feedback are proposed and tested. The first system allows obtaining regular bursting with period from 25 to 75 cavity round trips smoothly varied by the voltage applied to the Pockels cell based on TaLiO3 crystal. In the second laser system secondary electro-optic effect in a DKDP crystal of Pockels cell is used and the period of regular bursts is varied discretely from 7.8 µs down to 0.52 µs.

Design study of compact Laser-Electron X-ray Generator for material and life sciences applications. JINST 4, P07017, pp. 1-14, 2009
Abstract: X-ray generators utilizing Thomson scattering fill in the gap that exists between conventional and synchrotron-based X-ray sources. They are expected to be more intensive than X-ray tubes and more compact, accessible and less expensive than synchrotrons. In this work, two operation modes of Thomson X-ray source (or laser-electron X-ray generator—LEXG) are documented: quasi continuous wave (QCW) and a pulsed one. They are considered for material sciences and medical applications that are currently implemented at Synchrotron Radiation (SR) facilities. The proposed system contains a ~50MeV linac and a picosecond laser with an average power ~few hundred Watts. The Thomson X-ray source is able to deliver up to 5*1011 photons in a millisecond flash and an average flux of 1012–1013 phot/sec. To achieve these parameters with existing optical and accelerator technology, the system must also contain a ring for storage of e-bunches for 103–105 revolutions and an optical circulator for storage of laser pulses for 102 passes. The XAFS spectroscopy, small animal angiography and human noninvasive coronary angiography are considered as possible applications of laser-electron X-ray generator.

In a self mode-locked laser, the combination of negative and positive feedback enables the realization of nonlinear dynamics similar to the logistic map. In quasi-CW mode, the combination leads to a laser output in the form of a square wave with a period of two cavity-round-trip times. The proposed approach paves the way to a regular pulsation with a period of three or four cavity-round-trip times as well.
